Evaluation Question 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

These digital technologies were all dependant on eachother, and without one I wouldnt have been able to produce my Music video.

I also used photoshop in the production and post production of my ancillary texts, this was good as I used it in my foundation portfolio and was also able to develop my skills in this program. It became easier to produce my products after using Photoshop last year, for example removing backgrounds from the images wasn't as painful because I understood what to do more.

Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

By gaining audience feedback I am able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of my products from someone else's perspective. The feedback helped me develop my music video and ancillary texts.

I surveyed 40 people in my audience feedback to find some more details.

Evaluation Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

I think I have combined my main products, my magazine advertisement and my digipak very well. I have combined these by using colour schemes, I was originally intending to use a blue background on my video for the elements I filmed on a green screen, however I chose to use a red and black background as this made the transition between all my texts much more seamless.

I used the colour scheme of Red, Black and White in my advanced portfolio to make sure that there is continuity throughout my video, and ancillary texts. The digipak is also combined very well with my video as I took images for my digipak just before I filmed. These images show an effective combination as they are very similar to my video.

I also used the same font styles throughout my video. Big and Bold was something which I thought was relevant to the genre so I made sure the text in my video linked to this as my digipak also used big and bold text. This then created a brand, which means they will be able to relate different texts back to the same goal, promoting the artist and the new release.

The genre was represented in the movement and body language of my artists in my video, and their pose in my digipak. They are using symbolic hand gestures and are actually looking into the camera showing that they are acknowledging that the camera is there.

Evaluation Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation Question One: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I chose to use a song that didn't have a video (at the time of choosing) this meant that there would be no original video that would distort my first ideas. However it was a good choice as my actors both knew the lyrics. Lip syncing was important to make my video look real and this was done in my video and the lip sync element looks good.

I used genre conventions such as costume, I dressed the cast in clothes which represented the genre and made a performance video as this is what is popular throughout the genre.

The uses and gratifications theory states that 'products need to fulfil the audiences needs and expectations' I have done this by using convetions, which is means that the video will be what they expect of a video of this genre. Personal identity is also important in this theory and I have created an identity for the artists by giving them names, a style, and also by including on my digipak a Twitter account and an online store. This means that my product will fulfil their expectations.

I have used Richard Dyer's star theory too. I have allowed my two artists to become stars in their own right. He states that a star is something that is constructed and represented across a range of mediums. This is true and relates to my video as I have created them to look like R&B artists like Chris Brown, Kanye West or Tyga. They are represented across my promotional package from my video, to my cd cover.

Also, the use of text at the start of the video is a convention of this genre. By using this I have built a good brand too as the text carries across to my digipak.

I used many variations of shots. Here are some shot types:

My Ancillary Texts.

My ancillary texts use conventions of the genre and real products as I have used a Greyscale background and main image. This is something that is seen in many magazine advertisements for new releases and artist promotions. I have also included the iTunes logo, something which adds a sense of verisimilitude to my product. I also made sure that conventions followed through from my music video to my ancillary texts to make the whole promotional package look professional.
